What is Transport/Route Permit
It is basically a permission for vehicles by the RTO in the form of an authorized document to regulate vehicle usage across different states of the country. According to the Indian Act 1998, all vehicles like buses, cars, trucks, tankers, dumpers, and other goods carriers operating in the country should have road permits.
There are multiple type of permits for different vehicles
- All India tourist permit (AITP) It is for buses specially operating for tourism across the country.
- Stage Carriage permits
It is for local mini buses, vans. Which are being operated on specific routes for the public. The permit fee varies according to seating capacity. If a vehicle keeps 6 seats then it will be charged 2.5k per year. If the seats are more than 6 then it will be charged 4 thousand INR - Permits for goods transport
It carries only the goods that are allowed by the Government. On these vehicles ,the fee levied according to their weight. The vehicle weighing more han 7.5 tonnes pays 2 thousand INR annually. - National permit
The ministry of Road and Transport issues the national permit which is valid throughout the country.
How to get Permit for vehicle
Here is the proper guide for you to get your vehicle permit. First of all, you should know the type of permit you need, Because there are different forms for different permits , for example , the National permit form 46) Fill the Application form, submit it to the RTO with charged fees and required important documents.
(Documents required: RC, insurance certificate, PUC, certificate, ID proof ,and address).
The RTO will check its fitness and safety measures. And finally, the department will issue the permit after completing the inspection of the vehicle. Many states of India are offering that facility online too.
